My thought is to capitalize on what made us successful the first time (online games), and expand on it. I'd suggest a few ideas, and I'd like to hear your thoughts:
- New Name. I know we've used SK/SilentKnights for a long time, and I'll be the first one to say I'll definitely miss it (I've been using it even before the creation of these forums... WAY back). But I think our URL is difficult to remember, our name is easily confused, and quite frankly it's a cheap pun I came up with in 10 minutes that's been over done by a dozen other guilds. I'd like to come up with something catchy, and maybe a little quirky, that we can still nab the URL for.
- New Design. Yes, our forum is in a classic phpbb style. But it's boring. We've had many a color scheme over the years, and most all were better than this one. Phpbb3 has been out for quite a while and improvements are out there. Anyone who wants to suggest a few certainly can, otherwise I'll just find one.
- New Features. What the heck can people do at our site right now? Play some arcade games and post. Not very exciting. What I'm thinking of doing is gathering several browser based games, forum games, and so forth, and just packing the site full of goodness. I'd also like to create a splash page of sorts to organize it all into one useful area. With a google search.
- New Rewards. Ok, so our recognition system is lacking. The first thing I'd like to do is reward those who participate. I'm thinking of creating a semi-military ranking system (similar to what we once had), which would allow people to earn ranks and privileges based on involvement. I'd also like to come up with some more concrete rewards that I could give out without costing myself a fortune. Ideas would be welcome there.
- New Leadership. Lets face it, I'm just one guy, and I'm not the most on-top-of-things person you could find. I'd like to put more power in the hands of other people to get things moving. I liked the idea of having team leaders for games, and I think I'd like to go back to something like that (I can lead new games as we adopt them, and as we gain new users put the leadership in someone else's hand).
- New Games! Finally, any good guild needs games to play on. X-kings is pretty much dead. But there are a ton of other games that support guilds we could get involved in. If everyone played in just one or two games, and invited one or two people to the site, we could grow quite quickly. I'd love to hear ideas for games!
So, those are my thoughts. I'd really like to hear yours! Anyone else have ideas?
